P&G gives 150 laptops to a Pangasinan school

DAGUPAN CITY , Philippines — Procter and Gamble (P&G) turned over Tuesday 150 units of wi-fi ready laptops in partnership with CSI Group of Companies to the Lucao Elementary School here for its e-Estudyante program.

 Jia Salindong, country marketing manager of P&G, said “the partnership can help us realize a shared vision to assist in the Filipino education.”

P& G believes that the “Isang laptop, mas malawak na kaalaman, mas maliwanang na bukas” thrust is more than just an educational tool. These laptops also represent opportunities for the students as these will encourage them to more confidently pursue their dreams, equipped with knowledge of the world made available to them, Salindong said.

e.Studyante is developed to train public school students with skills that will enable them to be more competitive in the future. Through internet connectivity, they can become more collaborative and creative with their independence in learning.

The program will complement traditional learning tools that are already available with technology that can enhance their learning and prepare them for a more advanced future.

Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, president and chief executive officer of CSI, said the e.Studyante program of P&G is a collaboration that she supports because it gives accessibility to information to promising students, leading them to realize their dreams.

She is elated at the how student’s life here would be immensely changed through the power of computer and internet connectivity which can build a better future for themselves.

Bernard Sim Tandoc, a grade six pupil, thanked their benefactors whom he described as angels (P&G) and fairy godmother (Fernandez), as he expressed the importance of computers in a student’s life, with the vast information it provides. He said it also motivates them to study because of colorful pictures and videos, adding that laptops could inculcate in them the discipline of self-study and self-reliance as it introduces to them a new world of knowledge.

Lilian Tandoc, teachers’ club president of said school, said computers can be brilliant aid to teaching. Computer teachings supplemented with alternative interface can result in greater readership, she said.

Lucao Elementary School is the first outside Metro Manila that would enjoy the project since it was launched last year.

P&G’s e.Studyante program has new partners, Samsung and Vibal, where e.books were provided in each donated laptop.

 P&G envisions to distribute one million especially designed, child-friendly laptops nationwide when it celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2035.

The e.Studyante program is P&G Philippines’ long-term e-learning advocacy launched in partnership with Smart Communications Inc. and Synergeia Foundation.
