1 dead, 2 hurt in Cavite hostage drama
CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – An alleged drug addict was shot dead by police officers after he stabbed a woman and her niece whom he took hostage along with a one-year-old boy in Dasmariñas City, Cavite on Saturday afternoon.
Peter Adricula of Trece Martirez City was declared dead on arrival at the Pagamutan ng Dasmariñas due to a gunshot wound in the body, according to Superintendent Miguel Secillano, deputy director for operation of the Cavite police.
Adricula’s victims – Marian Famarin, 20, and Janielsa Fajanil, 8 – were taken to the Emilio Aguinaldo Medical Center for treatment.
Famarin’s nephew Jeremiah Fajanil was not harmed in the incident that occurred at their house in Barangay Salitran 1 at around 2 p.m.
Superintendent Janet Arinabo, spokesperson for the Cavite police, said Adricula barged into the house of the Fajanils and took Famarin and the children hostage at knifepoint.
Adricula refused to talk to responding police officers and demanded that he would only negotiate with a journalist.
He, however, changed his mind and stabbed his hostages, prompting the officers to shoot him.
It was the second hostage-taking incident in Cavite this month.
On Oct. 9, police shot dead a man who took hostage and stabbed four toilet attendants at a mall, also in Dasmariñas City.
One of the victims died while being treated in the hospital.
