CEBU, Philippines - Police are advising vehicle owners to make sure their cars are always in good condition after a car caught fire at the South Road Properties around 4:52 in the morning yesterday.

The vehicle was driven by Hermes Escosung, 64, a resident of L36 Villa Feliza, Barangay Tungkil, Minglanilla.

Escusong, who was with his wife, was driving their CRV from Cebu City en route to Carcar City.

Escosung said he noticed a spark from the left headlights of the vehicle.

The couple immediately escaped the car and called for help.

When the Bureau of Fire Protection arrived, the vehicle was already burned.

According to the BFP, the fire caused an estimated damage of P700,000.

Duty investigator SF02 Sherwin Algoso urges drivers to constantly check their vehicles, particularly those that have recently been rewired.

“Pirmi tan-awon ang sakyanan, ipa road test gyud, i-pa klaro, kung mahimo pud ang owner kay magbutang ug fire extinguisher sa sakyanan,” he said. (FREEMAN)
