University of San Carlos Dance Troupe in Malaysia

Themed "Citrawarna" (Colours of Asia in Malaysia) the event showcased traditional dances portraying unity in diversity at its best. For the first time this year's festival event invited five countries: Thailand, China, Indonesia, Korea and the Philippines.
This annual festival showcasing the culture of Malaysia was sponsored by CIOFF (Counseil Des Organization De Festival D' Arts Traditionnel) in collaboration with Tourism Malaysia, Ministry of Culture and Heritage Malaysia. The University of San Carlos Dance Troupe represented the Philippines upon the invitation by CIOFF Philippines President, Ms. Corazon Inigo. The invitation was for the dance troupe to give two performances at the malls. The one-hour show at City Plaza and Sungay Wang Malls focused on glimpses of Philippine Culture. For the Opening Ceremonies the dance troupe showcased the "Sinulog" Festival. Resplendent and regal in Ma. Clara costumes their performance was highlighted when they were chosen to head the parade around the Merdeka Stadium and as the finale number of the international groups performances. Amidst the traditional Asean costumes the Ma. Clara costumes outshoned and stood out during the performance of 3,800 participants. The gracefulness and the beauty of the dancers plus the musicality of the Sinulog beat awed the audience.
The 30-Dance Troupe members was accompanied by Dolores Suzara as Head of Delegation, Choreographer Francita Pacana, Liason Officer Nimfa Alo, Sinulog Executive Director Ricky Ballesteros, DOT Region VII officers, Agnes Toling and Judy Gabato.
