Kuh Ledesma spreads the ‘Perfect Love’
CEBU, Philippines - Kuh Ledesma rose to fame with her beautiful face, soulful voice and acting prowess. Dubbed as the country’s Pop Diva, she has the distinction of being the first Filipino singer to become a recipient of the Salem Music Awards in London in 1989.
The Bacolod-born star has staged more than 1,000 concerts and has sang with the likes of Michael Legrand, Noel Pointer, Jack Jones, Kenny Rankin and David Pomeranz and has travelled all over the world performing in prestigious venues. In 1997, she released the international album “Precious” in collaboration with American and Filipino songwriters, arrangers and musicians.
But Kuh wasn’t only gifted in music. She has also been a trailblazer in the fields of fashion and entrepreneurship and is skilled at painting and architecture.
In 2013, Kuh was once again in the spotlight and part of the mainstream conversation due to her role as the mother of Tom Rodriguez’s gay character in the GMA-7 drama “My Husband’s Lover.” The provocative series – which was a ratings winner during its entire run – used as its theme song a re-recorded version of Kuh’s 1981 single “One More Try.”
“One More Try” became popular again, and as a result, re-introduced the mighty talented Kuh to the public and also allowed her to be discovered by a younger generation of TV and music audiences.
Despite all these feathers on her cap, Kuh doesn’t consider any of these career-related achievements as the utmost life fortunes she’s most grateful for.
“I thank God for the 35 plus years in show business and the many blessings He has poured into my life,” says Kuh, “but coming to the saving knowledge of His son Jesus Christ has been by far the greatest blessing of all.”
It might be unknown to many, but Kuh is an active advocate of “God’s healing power” and wholly committed to a higher cause that is the Perfect Love Ministry – a local and international outreach in the form of conferences and concerts by a dedicated team of Christian artists and ministry workers, businessmen and other individuals.
“I thank God for giving me the vision for the Perfect Love conference, a great opportunity to serve our Lord, to bring a harvest of souls to the kingdom of God and to empower men and women, couples and the young on how to activate the healing power that comes from God’s perfect love,” says Kuh, who lives the vision-mission of sharing real life messages and testimonies about “God’s perfect love made known through the gospel of Christ, which brings about healing transformation and restoration in every aspect of life.”
This weekend, Cebuanos will get their chance of personally hearing from Kuh and other artists. Following their recent tours in Cagayan de Oro, General Santos and Davao, the Perfect Love Ministry will be in Cebu for two days.
The October 8 (Saturday) event will start with a conference that will start at 1 p.m. to be followed by a concert at 7 p.m. The next day, October 9 (Sunday) will solely be for partners, sponsors and volunteer workers. All events will be held at the Convention Hall of JCentre Mall in Mandaue City.
Kuh teamed up with Cebuano couple Mel and Cathy Po who will be sharing their marriage story and will reveal how, against all odds, they made their marital union whole once more. Entrepreneurs Mel and Cathy are working alongside local partners and volunteer workers in preparing for the two-day event.
Artists and celebrities such as Tirso Cruz III, Jodi Sta. Maria, Nanette Inventor, Kuh’s daughter Isabella, Ray-An Fuentes, Carlo Orosa, blogger and author Joy Tanchi-Mendoza, Migo Adecer, Rita Gonzalez and CBN Asia’s Peter Kairuz are set to grace the conference and concert.
The conference will include inspirational talks on the following topics: Dangers of Addiction and 4 C’s of Marriage by Mel and Cathy; My Wake Up Call and Words Matter by Kuh; and My Journey with the Lord by Peter Kairuz; Christ’s Love that Saves, Love that Frees, Grace that Saves by Rita Gonzalez.
Actor Tirso Cruz III will also grace a session titled Tirso Then and Now. One of the most sought-after matinee idols in the 70’s, Tirso was then paired with Nora Aunor and they became the hottest love team during their time. In September 2014, the multi-awarded thespian and his family went through a trying time when was diagnosed with early stage lung cancer. After undergoing lobectomy and other medical treatments, Tirso was declared clear and completely healed in March 2015 “through prayers and God’s love and grace.”
Another entertainer, Ray-An Fuentes, has his own conference session where he will deliver a Salvation Message. Ray-An is a multi-awarded singer, dancer and songwriter in the 80’s. He popularized the song “Umagang Kay Ganda” with Tillie Moreno. In 1988, he left showbiz to serve the Lord in full-time, faith-based ministry as a singing Evangelist, preacher and teacher.
Proceeds from the conference will benefit The Holy Bible Giver Foundation Inc., which gives out Bibles in depressed areas in the Philippines and bring the Perfect Love conference and concert in key cities here and abroad.
Tickets are available as premiere (P1500), deluxe (P1000) and general admission (P500) at Golden Prince Hotel and Suites (Acacia St., Cebu City), Gran Tierra (Capitol), Epic Gym (Oakridge Pavilion), OMF Lit Bookshop (Banilad and Robinsons Cybergate), Bright Lamps and Style (A.S.
