First Filipino doctor of divinity in new thought
MANILA, Philippines - Best-selling author, newspaper columnist and radio personality George Sison was recently conferred an honorary doctorate degree in divinity by the Lola Pauline Mays New Thought School of Ministry based in Mesa, Arizona. The distinction recognizes Sison’s singular and substantial efforts in propagating New Thought in the Philippines primarily through the Temple of Prayer, Peace and Prosperity, a spiritual empowerment group he established in 1983.
New Thought is a spiritual movement that originated in the United States in the late 19th century. Sison is only the 14th individual to receive a doctorate in divinity from the institution. The recognition places the country more firmly on the global map of New Thought and spirituality.
For his part, Sison said, “It is a privilege and an immense honor as well to receive this very valuable recognition, and it only strengthens my resolve and that of my organization to continue spreading the word about New Thought and inspiring positive life changes in many more Filipinos.”
