Tanghalang Ateneo celebrates 35th year by reliving ancient Greece

MANILA, Philippines - Tanghalang Ateneo, Ateneo de Manila University's theater group, will present four Greek plays in celebration of its 35th season.

The series of plays, titled “35th Season: Re-imagining the Greeks," will feature four stories:  Ang Oresteyas, Ang Bacchae, Eurydice and Antigone’s Rex.

Ang Oresteyas (The Oresteia) is a trilogy of Greek tragedies written by Aeschylus, focusing on the curses on the House of Atreus.

Meanwhile, Ang Bacchae (The Bacchae) tells the story of Dionysus, a the half-mortal son of Zeus who took revenge on the house of Cadmus.

Eurydice is an adaptation of Sarah Ruhl's play which tells the story of Orpheus and Eurydice from Eurydice's point of view.

It focuses on Eurydice's dilemma on whether to return to Earth with Orpheus or stay in Hades with her father.

Antigone’s Rex tackles the life of Antigone, the daughter of Oedipus, who was plagued by his incestuous past.
