EPD mulls charges vs Pasig gas station
MANILA, Philippines - The Eastern Police District (EPD) is planning to file charges of obstruction of justice against a gasoline station for refusing to provide them closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage that can help identify the suspects in the killing of a police official in Pasig City recently.
“We are contemplating filing charges because despite our request, the gas station won’t give us a copy of the CCTV footage,” EPD director Chief Superintendent Romulo Sapitula said on Tuesday.
Sapitula said he ordered the EPD legal department to prepare the charges.
Chief Inspector Rommel Macatlang, 52, head of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group field office in Pasig, was shot dead in his white Mitsubishi Adventure (CRT-560) by two men on a motorcycle as he stopped for gas at the corner of Ortigas and Meralco Avenues on April 18.
Macatlang died at the scene from gunshots to the body.
Sapitula said Macatlang could have stepped on the toes of drug and criminal rings.
