San Beda keeps NCAA overall title
MANILA, Philippines - San Beda hauled seven titles and finished second in women’s beach volleyball to retain the overall seniors championship at the close of Season 92 of the NCAA yesterday.
The Lions ruled the centerpiece basketball and dominated chess, men’s taekwondo, women’s table tennis, men’s and women’s swimming and football, finished second to San Sebastian in women’s beach volley while making it to the Final Four in women’s indoor volley to garner 683 points.
It was San Beda’s second straight overall crown and fifth overall.
St. Benilde ended up second overall with 647 points on victories in men’s volleyball, women’s taekwondo, men’s table tennis and men’s lawn tennis but failed to draw enough points in beach volley and athletics to unseat San Beda.
“This is a proud accomplishment by the whole San Beda community,” said NCAA Management Committee chair Jose Mari Lacson of host San Beda.
Arellano U ended up third overall with 590 points followed by Lyceum of the Phl U (444.5), Perpetual Help (384.5), Letran (367), Mapua (301.5), San Sebastian (300), Emilio Aguinaldo (299) and Jose Rizal U (172.5).
San Beda made it a double celebration after topping the juniors division with 405 points, edging Arellano U (397.5) by just 7.5 points.
“We invested in other sports not just the events we’re strong at. We hope to keep on improving,” said Lacson.
