'Lawin' further weakens, moves away from Philippines
MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE 3 11:23 a.m.) — Typhoon Lawin (international name Haima) continues to weaken and is now moving away from the country, state weather bureau PAGASA said Thursday morning.
At 10 a.m., the eye of the typhoon was located at 100 kilometers west northwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte and packs maximum sustained winds of up to 150 kilometers per hour with gusts of up to 185 kilometers per hour.
The typhoon is likely to move west northwest at 21 kilometers per hour.
Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected within the 700-kilometer diameter of the typhoon.
"Sea travel is risky over the seaboards of Southern Luzon and the northern and eastern seaboards of Samar," PAGASA said.
