MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Energy (DOE) should now focus on sustaining reliable power supply in the country now that the election is over, a consumer group said.

Consumer group Citizen Watch vowed to continue-monitoring the power situation as the El Niño phenomenon continues to affect the country.

“Now that elections are over, it is now time to rethink our strategies for sustainable, affordable, and efficient energy supply,” CitizenWatch secretary general Wilford Wong said.

He also said this should be the priority of the next administration to accelerate and sustain the country’s economic velocity.

CitizenWatch commended the DOE for helping the country achieve a brown-out free election on May 9.

The group said it monitored the situation and recorded no incidence of brownouts in over 92,000 clustered precincts where a record number of Filipinos voted for local and national positions.

“After two automated elections in 2010 and 2013, the importance of a stable electric supply has hopefully been impressed upon our government officials. Wong said.”

“We laud the leadership of Secretary  Zenaida Monsada for this achievement,” he added.
