Uber expands to Rizal
MANILA, Philippines - Uber is expanding its footprint in the country by offering its services in select areas of Rizal Province.
The ride-sharing app said it started offering its on-demand ride services to Cainta, as well as select areas of Taytay, Antipolo and San Mateo yesterday.
Uber said the move is in line with its aim to provide safe, reliable and convenient transportation to as many people possible.
“In an effort to make this expansion economically sustainable for partner-drivers on the system, riders who take trips to (not from) the newly-included areas will see an additional P60 East Surcharge on top of their fares for trips to the East (not from),” Uber said.
The surcharge is meant to support partner-drivers who may incur additional costs associated with taking trips to the new areas in Rizal being served.
“Trips to these far-off places often result in extended idle times in between trips for partner-drivers. This results in additional fuel costs and lost time that otherwise would not have incurred had the trips ended within Metro Manila,” Uber said.
To find out if the rider’s stop is part of Uber’s expanded coverage area, the rider will have to enter the destination on the app before hitting the request button.
