DMCI installs diesel power plants in Masbate

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – DMCI Power Corp. has installed two satellite diesel power plants in Masbate to ease the power supply shortage in the province.

The company said the additional generating plants have a combined capacity of 1.75 megawatts (MW) and are located in the municipalities of Cawayan and Balud.

Prior to the installation of the two plants, the two towns have been experiencing frequent blackouts due to trippings of the transmission lines and voltage problems.

The local government units have made appeals to power distributor Masbate Electric Cooperative (Maselco) to address the dire power situation.

In turn, Maselco requested DMCI Power to deploy generating units in Cawayan and Balud.

“Quality of life in Masbate has significantly improved because of our partnership with the Maselco. There’s more economic activity and higher productivity because people have access to reliable electricity,” DMCI Power president Nestor Dadivas said.

DMCI Power, a unit of the Consunji-led DMCI Holdings Inc., was established in 2006 to provide sufficient and reliable electricity to off-grid areas, or those not connected to the main transmission grid.

Aside from Masbate, the company also provides power to Palawan and Calapan, Oriental Mindoro through supply contracts with electric cooperatives.

To date, DMCI Power has a total contracted capacity of about 59 MW.
