Morita Japanese Restaurant: Of friendships and sushi

MANILA, Philippines - A meal becomes special when it is enjoyed and shared with friends.  It becomes even more unique if the menu was borne out of a long- standing friendship between two great friends.

The restaurant is the newest gastronomic attraction at the upper ground floor of Fisher Mall, the newest shopping and lifestyle destination located at the corner of Roosevelt and Quezon Avenues (former Pantranco) in Quezon City.

Fishing magnate Roberto Simeon “Bobby” del Rosario and his family decided to put up a Japanese restaurant in Fisher Mall to honor their friendship with the late Tomiya Morita. 

Morita was a long-standing business associate and friend of the Del Rosario family who owns Irma Fishing and Trading – the country’s biggest commercial fishing firm which supplies fresh catch to local and international market, and Fisher Mall.  Morita’s boats allowed the family to run and expand their fishing business to what it is today. 

“Over the last 40 years, every boat that Morita-san recommended is still in operation. Just as these boats withstand the test of time, so does my family’s gratitude to Mr. Morita,” Del Rosario emphasizes.

Del Rosario says Morita was a truly great man who valued honesty, integrity, hardwork, and loyalty. These values were seen in the many years they have been friends and done business together. 

Morita hails from Nagasaki, Japan and even if he had humble beginnings, he was able to touch the lives of many people.  Del Rosario says he was one of those people who’ve had the privilege and pleasure of such a great man’s company and friendship. 

“Today, Morita Japanese Restaurant stands in tribute to this great man.  From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you Mr. Morita,” Del Rosario says.  

To ensure the restaurant would truly be a fitting tribute to Morita, Morita Japanese Restaurant aims to offer only authentic Japanese flavors. 

Morita Japanese Restaurant is managed by Bobby’s son Roberto Alfonso ‘Obby’ del Rosario, also the president and CEO of Fisher Supermarket.

The restaurant’s main man in the kitchen is renowned Japanese chef Tom Yamasaki of Sugi. Ably backing him up is co-chef Danny Madlangbayan, former executive chef of Furosato Restaurant.  Dino de Jesus, head of Fisher Mall’s Food Subsidiaries, oversees the restaurant’s operation.

The restaurant also reserved a prime space for its sushi bar where it will showcase the skills of its chefs and kitchen staff as well as display how sushi is made.

Morita Japanese Restaurant also adds more fun to dining during its band nights, featuring several famous show bands daily where customers can enjoy lively music for a minimum and consumable amount of only P300.
